I once heard a speaker ask a group of coaches, "How many of you remember the name of your math teacher when you were a junior in high school?" In a room of about 500 coaches, only a few hands went up. He then asked, "How many of you remember the name of your football coach your junior year?" Every hand went up.

As coaches, we have a tremendous responsibility to be the best that we can be for our players. Our brief contribution, and whether it's a positive or negative experience, will leave a lasting impact on their lives.

Numerous books on every aspect of the game of football have been written, published and are readily available. "So....You Want to Coach Football?" is not a text book on any particular area of the game. You won't find any X's and O's. The objective of this book is to be a guide for coaches. More of a coaching handbook, how to handle stuff that comes with the territory, filled with examples and real stories of what I did wrong and learned not to do again, and a few illustrations of what I did right.
